چکیده

The problem of incorporating advanced hardware resources into a grid computing environment is considered. An experimental special-purpose cluster of machines is designed and placed into service on a prototypical grid. The cluster is populated with CAD workstations, PCs and reconfigurable devices, and then used to develop accelerated implementations for amenable applications. Access mechanisms are devised so that users may request either software solutions, which may be satisfied by our cluster or a variety of other clusters resident on the grid, or accelerated solutions, which can only be satisfied by hardwareenhanced clusters such as ours. Preliminary results are described. A number of continuing research issues are

Implementing high-level parallelism on computational GRIDs

Special purpose high performance computers are expensive and rare, but workstation clusters are cheap and becoming common. Emerging technology offers the opportunity to integrate clusters into a single high performance computer a computational Grid. The acceptance of computational Grids, however, is seriously hampered by the difficulty of efficiently managing the parallelism in such heterogeneo...

Performance analysis of direct N -body algorithms on highly distributed systems

We present a performance analysis of different parallelization schemes for direct codes used in the simulation of astrophysical stellar systems. These codes compute the gravitational interaction among stars in an exact way and have a computational complexity of O(N). Significant improvement in the performance of direct N -body codes can be obtained by means of general purpose massively parallel...

An Atmospheric Sciences Workflow and Its Implementation with Web Services

Computational and data Grids couple geographically distributed resources such as high performance computers, workstations, clusters, and scientific instruments. Grid Workflows consist of a number of components, including: computational models, distributed files, scientific instruments and special hardware platforms. In this paper, we describe an interesting grid workflow in atmospheric sciences...

Performance analysis of direct N-body algorithms for astrophysical simulations on distributed systems

We discuss the performance of direct summation codes used in the simulation of astrophysical stellar systems on highly distributed architectures. These codes compute the gravitational interaction among stars in an exact way and have an O(N2) scaling with the number of particles. They can be applied to a variety of astrophysical problems, like the evolution of star clusters, the dynamics of blac...
